Race Information

Race Headquarters

Coastal Taranaki School gymnasium

  • 92 Carthew Street, Okato
  • All on-the-day inquiries will be dealt with there.

Eligibility

  • To enter the half marathon or team half marathon each participant must be 14 years of age and above.
  • Participants between the ages of 14 to 16 years must be accompanied by an adult who is also an entrant.

Start Times

  • Runners/Team Runners start at 8.00 am.
  • Walkers/Team Walkers teams at 8.05 am.

Start Location

  • The start location is the pedestrian crossing on Oxford Road, Okato.  Behind the Taranaki Coastal School and not far from the Okato Police Station.

Finish Location

  • The finish of the half marathon and teams event will be on Anglers Avenue, Bayly Road, Warea.
  • Parking will be available on Anglers Ave, Warea as directed by marshals.   
  • For competitors’ safety, Bayly Road will be a one-way road during the event. Exiting vehicles will be guided by marshals to leave the Boat Club via the Coast Road to Pungarehu.

Team Event

  • The team changeover is at the top of Mid Newall Road at the 11.4 km mark.
  • There is plenty of road space to park here and a portaloo will be available.
  • The second team member will then walk/run 10.4km to the finish. 
  • For all team events team member one can run/walk across the finish line with team member two so that both receive a medal and/or spot prize together.

  • 8.00am - 12.00pm

Compulsory Race Briefing

  • All competitors are asked to congregate within the Coastal Taranaki School Gymnasium off Carthew Street by 7.30 am for the race briefing.
  • All competitors must attend this briefing.
  • You will then be guided to the start line as a group by race marshals.

Race Numbers

  • All competitors will be allocated with a race number. 
  • Competitors who have entered prior to the event must pick up, or have a friend pick up their race pack between 2 pm-4 pm on Saturday 13th of July from the Shoe Clinic New Plymouth – 87 Devon Street East, New Plymouth.
  • Only competitors that are entering on the day will be issued with a race number on the morning of the event.  The race number is to be pinned to the front of your shirt.  Please record any medical condition/s you may have on the reverse of the race bib.

Drink Station

  • Half Marathon drink stations will be approximately at the 4.6 km, 11.4 km, and 15.7 km marks.

Animals/Vehicles/Earphones

  • For safety reasons, baby buggies, pets and earphones are prohibited.  This will be strictly enforced.  
  • Any competitor wearing earphones will be withdrawn from the event.

Additional Information

Cape Egmont Boat Club

  • All competitors, spectators, and support crew are warmly invited to the Cape Egmont Boat Club.
  • On entry, all non-members of the Cape Egmont Boat Club are to sign in on arrival.   

Food/Drink

  • Hot food and drinks will be available to purchase inside the Cape Egmont Boat Club.

Spot Prizes

  • Random spot prizes will be given out to those participants who have completed and crossed the finish line.
  • You will be notified at the finishers tent as to whether you have won a prize or not. 
  • Each team member is eligible for a spot prize. 
  • If you do not run/walk in the race, you are not eligible for a spot prize.

Own Risk

  • All competitors compete at their own risk.  
  • Our committee accepts no responsibility as detailed on the terms and conditions and declaration signed at entry.

Cancellation

  • In extreme weather, the event may be cancelled at any time with no refunds. 
  • If at the time of the event Covid restrictions are in force to an extent that would mean the event is not viable, the event will be cancelled. 
  • Competitors will have the option of receiving a full refund, transfer their entry to the virtual half marathon, or treat it as a donation to the Taranaki Cancer Society.

Refunds - For personal reasons

  • No refunds will be made unless the organizers are notified in writing by the 16th of June 2024.
  • No refunds will be available after this date.
  • Refunds will incur a 25% administration fee, based on the entry fee paid.

Medals

  • Medals are awarded to all half marathon competitors who finish the event.

Parking

  • Parking at the start line will be available on Carthew Street, Okato, and within the Okato Township.
  • Parking at the finish line will be on Anglers Ave, Warea as directed by marshals.

Toilets

  • Toilets will be available at the start at the Coastal Taranaki School Gymnasium on Carthew Street, Okato, and at the finish at the Cape Egmont Boat Club.
  • Portaloos will be available at the team change-over spot on Mid Newall Road.

Transport

  • Transport will be available back to the start in Okato for those that need it. 
  • Please specify on your entry form overleaf whether you require transport.  A donation would be appreciated. 

Terms and Conditions

  1. I acknowledge that participating in a half marathon, or half marathon team event can involve the risk of serious injury or even death from various causes including overexertion, dehydration, course weather conditions, accidents with other competitors, spectators or road users, and other causes.  
  2. I acknowledge that safety precautions undertaken by the event organizers (such as course supervision and race safety briefings) are a service to me but not a guarantee of safety and event organizers (including officials and volunteers) provide no warranties regarding my wellbeing and safety. All competitors are asked to congregate within the Coastal Taranaki School gymnasium off Carthew Street by 7.30 am for the race briefing.   All competitors must attend this briefing.   
  3. I understand that I should not compete in this event unless I have trained appropriately and had any health concerns and pre-existing medical conditions checked by a medical practitioner to confirm it is medically safe for me to participate.
  4. I agree that if I have tested positive for Covid 19, need to be in self-isolation for any reason.  I will withdraw my entry and receive a full refund.  
  5. I agree to abide by the social distancing requirements as set out by the New Zealand Government at the time. 
  6. I consent to receive any medical treatment, at my cost (if any), that the event organizers think necessary during or after the event. First aid will be provided on the day.  The medical crew will have the final say over whether a participant is safe to continue and finish the course.  If for any reason you cannot complete the event for medical reasons, please let an official know. 
  7. I accept all risks from my participation in this event which could result in permanent injury or loss of life.
  8. I agree that, to the extent permissible by law, the Event organizers (including all officials and event volunteers), the sponsors, and other parties associated with the event, have no liability to me whatsoever for any direct and indirect loss (including but not limited to injury or death) sustained by me during or in any way related to my participation in the event.
  9. I agree to read and abide by all the safety information rules, conditions, and race instructions issued/displayed prior to the event.  I further agree to follow all verbal instructions issued by race officials during the event and that I am responsible for any consequences of my failure to observe the rules and instructions. 
  10. I hereby agree that this is a drug and alcohol-free event.

  11. I consent that any photographs/videos taken can be used by the Cape Egmont Half Marathon Committee for legitimate and reasonable promotional purposes.   

  12. Identifiable hazards: All participants must abide by the marshal’s instructions. All roads are still open. Traffic has the right of way apart from Bayly Road, which will be a one-way road for the duration of the event.   Participants must not run or walk more than two abreast at any time, and on all major roads, must only run single file, passing on the left-hand side. Pay particular attention to crossing State Highway 45 between Newall and Bayly Rd. Bridges on Wiremu and Newall Road are narrow and may be congested.  There is limited cell phone coverage within areas of the start and finish line.  In the event of a Coast Guard emergency, competitors and spectators will be directed by marshals to allow the Coast Guard boat to exit to the boat ramp via Anglers Ave. 

  13. My accepted entry into the event will not be transferred to another entrant.

  14. In extreme weather, the event may be cancelled at any time. In this situation, entry fees are non-refundable.

  15. If at the time of the event Covid restrictions are in force to an extent which would mean the event is not viable, the event will be cancelled. Entrants will have the option of getting a full refund, enter the virtual half marathon, or treat it as a donation to the Taranaki Cancer Society.

  16. Refunds for personal reasons need to be made in writing via email to the Cape Egmont Half Marathon Committee by the 16th of June 2024.  And will incur a 25% administration fee to cover costs.  No refunds will be made after this date.
